Find your place in life (sciences)

Discover

Whether you are on the path to becoming a doctor, seek to teach, or want to dig deep into the diversity and complexity of living systems, the Division of Biological Sciences has a major for you.  Learn biology with professors who make the discoveries, write the textbooks, and teach your classes.

Build a Career

The study of biology opens doors to many careers.  Over 75% of the fastest-growing occupations in the US build on a Biology degree (and 100% of the most rewarding...)

Beyond detailed knowledge of living systems, biology majors gain statistical, writing, and critical thinking skills valued across a broad spectrum of fields.  Explore links between majors and careers here and use our Biology CareerWeb to research career paths from physical therapist to science journalist to bioinformatician.

Learn biology by doing science. As a student researcher, you may find yourself searching for invasive plants across Eastern Europe, staging fights between fruit flies, or probing the structure of a viral protein. You'll certainly see science from a new angle.

DBS offers many opportunities for hands-on training in the skills necessary for a career in any biological field. Our students take innovative research-focused courses at all levels, work side-by-side with faculty and graduate students on cutting-edge research projects, and apply their skills in the surrounding communities and worldwide.  If you'd like to get involved in research, follow the guidelines on the DBS advising site and browse the web pages of DBS faculty to identify potential mentors, and then reach out to make a research connection. If you are searching for funding for your undergraduate research, please see our DBS scholarships, and consider seeking external funding for your project.
