Requirements for the Minor

All English Teaching minors must complete a minimum of thirty–six (36) credits in English. These 36 credits must include the following:

  • LIT 110: Intro to Literature OR CRWR 211: Intro Poetry Workshop
  • Any combination of two (2) of the following courses: LIT 202: The Environmental Imagination, LIT 236: Literary Histories, LIT 246 Genres, Themes Approaches.
  • LIT 300: Literary Criticism, and LIT 327: Shakespeare.
  • Two (2) additional 300–level or 400-level LIT courses, one of which concentrates in American literature, the other of which has a diversity focus (i.e., a course which carries an accompanying "d" designation; please keep documentation–e.g., a course syllabus, a copy of the department offerings list, etc.–that indicates your chosen course fulfills the diversity requirement)
  • ENT 439: Studies in Young Adult Lit, ENT 440: Teaching Writing, ENT 441: Teaching Reading & Literature, ENT 442: Teaching Oral Language and Media Literature
  • One (1) of the following: LING 270: Intro to Linguistics, LING 465: Structure and History of English, LING 470: Linguistic Analysis
