Brett Bell with her husband and child.

Where did you attend medical school?

University of Washington

Where did you do your residency?

I did my residency at Swedish Cherry Hill Family Medicine & the Seattle Indian Health Board, I also did an addiction medicine fellowship at Swedish Addiction Recovery Services in Seattle.

Within your specialty, do you have sub-specialty areas of practice that you particularly enjoy?

I have fellowship training in Addiction Medicine which I find satisfying because I get to see patients get better and change their lives.

I also love obstetrics, newborn care, reproductive health, breastfeeding medicine, liver disease, office procedures like joint injections, IUDs, Nexplanon placement, toenail removals, laceration repairs and skin biopsies.

What do you most enjoy about practicing Family Medicine?

I love getting to know the whole patient, and getting to experience the full life cycle from birth through the end of life. I also love how family medicine doctors are committed to serving their communities.

What do you enjoy most about teaching?

I love learning and I love that teaching residents makes me a better physician, I also love coaching and seeing other people learn and improve.

What brought you to Montana?

My husband and I love being outside, so we wanted to come to a place with easier access to hiking and skiing. We were also looking for a smaller community to raise our family.

Why did you choose to be part of the FMRWM?

The people! The chance to be a part of a residency program committed to serving rural and underserved communities. The opportunity to share my knowledge in addiction medicine to train the next generation of physicians.

What are some of your interests outside of the clinic or classroom?

Spending time with my husband and daughter, running, Nordic and downhill skiing, hiking, bicycling, science fiction movies, cooking and baking. I hope to learn to fly fish here, since it seems like it would be a shame not to.

What do you love about Western Montana?

So far I love being in such a friendly place, I love being so close to the mountains.

What is your favorite:

  • Book? Harry Potter series
  • Album? Hamilton! (other than that it's a lot of Raffi and Caspar Babypants at our household)
