Emily Heid, MD

FMRWM Faculty

Dr. Emily Heid out in the snow.

Where did you attend medical school?

The Ohio State University College of Medicine

Where did you do your residency?

The Cleveland Clinic Foundation

Within your specialty, do you have sub-specialty areas of practice that you particularly enjoy?

I have Fellowship training in foot and ankle surgery, but I enjoy all aspects of general orthopedics in the clinic setting.

What do you most enjoy about practicing Family Medicine?

Family Medicine provides a unique opportunity to really get to know the patients. Knowledge about the patient’s life experience is critical to understanding how they will respond to injury and illness.

What do you enjoy most about teaching?

I am excited to help prepare the residents for practice in rural Montana by giving them the skills and confidence they need to handle the orthopedic conditions they will encounter. On any given day in practice, a family doctor is just as likely to see a patient with back pain as an upper respiratory infection!

What brought you to Montana?

My parents were brave enough to drive four small children from Ohio in a beat up station wagon to Yellowstone or Glacier National Park for the annual summer family vacation. I have been in love with Montana ever since.

Why did you choose to be part of the FMRWM?

I believe in the mission of training doctors locally as they are much more likely to stay in the area they are trained. During my years in orthopedics I learned the importance of a dedicated family medicine physician in achieving good outcomes for patients.

What are some of your interests outside of the clinic or classroom?

I love any activity that gets me outside in nature.

What do you love about Western Montana?

What is not to love? I can’t imagine a better place to live. There is incredible natural beauty and wonderful people.
