A head shot of Kaycee Smith

Where did you attend college?

I attended college at Flathead Valley Community College and University of Montana.

What brought you to Montana?

I was born in Kalispell, and out of all the places I’ve travelled I’ve never been in a better place than home.

Why did you choose to be part of the Family Medicine Residency of Western Montana?

What I imagined my dream job having was a strong sense of community and made a noticeable difference in today’s world. Working for FMRWM has allowed me to fulfill both criteria. I chose to be a part of this organization because of the amazing people in it. The faculty, staff, and residents all work together to complete our mission. I am very lucky to be a long for this ongoing journey of assisting our next generations of doctors.

What are your interests outside the University and FMRWM?

I enjoy a lot of outdoor activities Montana has to offer. As soon as the weather brightens up, I try to spend as much time outside I can with my boyfriend. Many weekends I spend camping, hiking, and floating down the many rivers that are in a short drives reach. When I’m not in the woods I participate in co-recreational softball during the summer, and travel for tournaments across Montana. I also love attending the growing outdoor concert series in Montana, including the Under the Big Sky music festival in Whitefish. When the temperature drops, I catch up on good movies, TV series, and spend time with family awaiting the sunshine to come back.

What do you love about Western Montana?

While it is not urban in anyway, you can always find something going on. Missoula, Kalispell, and Columbia Falls all have phenomenal farmers markets that I love with several different local vendors. Another thing I love about WM I can just decide to try a new sport or activity and be able to try it that day. Some activities I've tried are skiing, paddle boarding/kayaking, ice skating, fly-fishing, rafting, to indoor things like painting, jewelry making, and cooking classes. My next activity to try is pickleball! The event calendars in Kalispell and Missoula stay booked year-round, and the amazing communities encourage everyone to try new things. I love that no matter the season I can find an experience easily which allows me to meet great people from all over! Western Montana truly is an outdoor playground right in our backyards, and I am lucky I get to take advantage of it. I love being able to drive 20 minutes out of town and be on a dirt road with no cell phone service. It is my favorite way to enjoy nature, with no distractions.

What's your favorite book?

My favorite book right now is Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens, and I can’t wait to see how the movie is going to be!
