Description

This training will provide public health managers and other personnel the skills to identify and fill gaps in their current workforce while strategically strengthening their staff for succession efforts.

Objectives:

Upon completion of this training, participants will be able to:

  • compare succession planning efforts of health departments and identify strategies that work best for their office
  • describe the three steps of managing transitions to prepare for situational change
  • identify current county culture and ascertain approaches to informing their counties
  • understand the importance of legislative changes
  • grow staff at a management level
  • use new perspectives and approaches to building their team

Ellen Leahy

 


Ellen Leahy, RN, MN, MPH

Ellen Leahy is the former Director and Health Officer for Missoula City-County Health Department, serving in that position for 32 years. She is also adjunct faculty for the School of Public and Community Health Sciences at the University of Montana.

Kim Berg

Kim Berg, MPH, CPH

Kimberly Berg is the health officer for Hill County. She has worked at the department for nearly 13 years. She holds a Bachelors of Science in Health Promotion from MSU-Bozeman, a Masters in Public Health from the University of Montana, and is nationally Certified in Public Health (CPH) through the National Board of Public Health Examiners.

Hillary Hanson

Hillary Hanson, MS, MPH

Hillary is the Chief Operating Officer for the Montana Public Health Institute (MTPHI). In this role, she leads the development and implementation of all aspects of operations and provides leadership in developing, implementing, and evaluating programs and services that strengthen the public health system and optimize the health and quality of life of Montanans.

John Felton

John Felton, MPH, MBA, FACHE

John Felton is the Health Officer for Yellowstone County. He has worked for RiverStone Health, the local public health agency for Yellowstone County, in various leadership capacities since 2004, following 6 years as a member and Treasurer of the local Board of Health. He has earned master’s degrees in business administration and public health, and he is a Fellow of the American College of Health Care Executives.
