Get Involved

Get Involved by Participating as a Member of the SARC Team!

Are you a student at UM who wants to have a meaningful and rewarding experience, while making a difference in the lives of fellow students?  SARC has several different ways for you to get involved.

Undergraduate Opportunities

Peers Reaching Out (PRO) Team

There are several ways you can participate with SARC and help us in fostering a community of respect at the University of Montana. Peer-to-peer education and support is incredibly powerful. If you would like to learn how to support your fellow students, in a variety of well-being related topics, please consider registering for CH 395 and joining the Peers Reaching Out (PRO) Team.

The goal of the Peers Reaching Out (PRO) program is to actively engage students in building necessary skills to be effective health promotion leaders on campus. UM PRO educators work to empower fellow UM students to make well-informed decisions about their wellbeing and positively influence a healthy campus culture.

Use this link for more information on CH 395, the Peer Health Education course.

SARC Volunteers

If you are interested in uplifting SARC by raising awareness about our services, planning events around particular topics, or learning more about supporting survivors in our community, perhaps becoming a SARC Volunteer is a good fit! Please use this link to let us know you are interested in volunteering in the 2023-24 school year. Please complete the application prior to August 1st, 2023 to guarantee full consideration.

If you have questions about these opportunities, please reach out to us at sarc@mso.umt.edu

Graduate Opportunities

SARC Interns/Advocates

SARC relies on graduate student support to ensure we are able to serve survivors in our community with both advocacy and counseling needs. If you a graduate student in need of a practicum or internship placement and would like to learn how to provide direct services for individuals who have experienced identity-based harm (which includes sex-based harm as well as discrimination, harassment, and bias) please reach out to the SARC Direct Services Coordinator, Elizabeth Dublinski. (ellizabeth.dublinski@mso.umt.edu)

SARC has a long history of working collaboratively with a number of graduate programs at UM. Most frequently we see students joining us for: 2nd Year MSW Practicum placement, Counselor Education Internships, and Women, Gender, & Sexuality Studies certificate students. If you are unsure about placement with SARC, we encourage you to speak with your program and feel welcome to reach out to SARC Direct Services with any questions.

Advocate recruitment typically happens in the spring semester for placement the following academic year (i.e. recruitment in Spring 2023 for an internship Fall 2023-Spring 2024). Each academic program may have a different schedule, but typically ARC placements for the following year are secured by the end of May.

SARC Advocates work approximately 15 hours per week with us. This time includes: clinical supervision (group and individual), "walk in" hours at the front desk, direct service client appointments, and limited "on call" shifts supporting First Step Resource Center in Missoula.

SARC-IESS Liaison

The SARC-IESS Liaison position is an opportunity open to graduate students and upper division undergraduate students. This role helps to expand the collaboration between SARC and IESS and support our efforts in helping build inclusive and anti-racist community at UM.

Check back May 22nd for the 2023-2024 SARC-IESS Liaison Application.

In the meantime, if you have questions, please contact Salena Hill (salena.hill@mso.umt.edu) or Aislinn Addington (aislinn.addington@mso.umt.edu).
