Pay your Ticket

All parking tickets may be paid on the UM Parking Portal or in person at the UM Parking Office, located in the Facilities Building.

The Montana statutes and the Board of Regents for Higher Education have authorized the University of Montana to levy fines. All vehicles parked on campus must properly display current campus vehicle registration.

Ticket Appeals

Type or print your reason(s) for the appeal in the form link below. Please be specific and concise about the circumstances. This appeal must be submitted within seven (7) calendar days of the violation. The first appeal must be submitted in written form. Appeal will be provided with the written decision of the Parking Appeals Board to the address noted on the form. If you are not happy with the result of the first appeal, you are allowed a second (final) hearing (appeal) at which time you must be present to discuss your appeal with the Parking Appeals Board. The in-person appeal in no way indicates that a more favorable decision will be rendered. If you fail to appear at any hearing (appeal) that you requested the result will be that the infraction is upheld. Non-payment of fines is subject to collection methods used by the University of Montana.

Please contact the Parking office: 406-243-6132, prior to submitting your written appeal. We may be able to answer your questions or possibly resolve your problem.

Appeals can also be sent through campus mail and dropped off in person.

Parking your vehicle on campus is a privilege, not a right, and parking permits do not guarantee a space will be available at all times. Complete rules and regulations regarding parking on campus are located at the button below.

THESE REGULATIONS ARE ENFORCED IN THEIR ENTIRETY. PLEASE ACQUAINT YOURSELF WITH THEIR CONTENTS, AS UNAWARENESS OF THE REGULATIONS WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED IN APPEALS.

All appeals are reviewed by the Traffic Appeals and Review Committee.

  1. Appeals are reviewed by the Traffic Appeals and Review Committee which consists of one faculty, one staff, and one student member, all appointed by the University President from lists of nominees provided by the Faculty and Staff Senates, and ASUM. These members recommend University parking and traffic policies, and review appeals.

  2. Anyone wishing to appeal a parking citation must file a written notice within 7 working days of the citation's issue with UMPD. This form is available at the UM Parking Office or on the UMPD website. Any citation after more than 7 working days may be accepted but considered as such. Conduct and deportment toward field or office staff will be considered in all appeals. If the fine is upheld by the Board, payment of the fine is due upon notice of the decision.

  3. The same citation may be submitted for appeal twice, once in writing and once in a personal appearance before the Appeals Committee.

  4. The only exceptions on disability fines are limited to the following:

    1. A valid parking permit was issued prior to receipt of the citation.

    2. Recommendation of exemption by Disability Services.

    3. Substantiated medical documentation of a temporary/permanent disability.

  5. The Traffic Appeals and Review Committee meets twice each month from September through April, and as needed from May through August.
