Getting Started

Equipment Needed

1. Pedometer

You can get a pedometer at Health Enhancment Office in the Curry Health Center or your favorite sporting good store.

Pedometer

What is a pedometer and how can it help me?

A pedometer counts your steps based on your hip movement while walking. The step count is converted into distance by setting the length of your stride. Simply wearing a pedometer everyday has an enormous benefit. When you clip on your pedometer it provides a mental reminder that fitness is important. Plus, each time you review your progress you’ll be reminded of the importance of improving your fitness.

How far have I walked?
Now that you know how many steps you are taking each day, you may also want to know the distance in miles you have walked. Keep in mind that 2,000 steps is approximately one mile. For example, if you walked about 5,000 steps you have approximately walked two and a half miles.
If you are walking on the University’s Recreation Center’s indoor-track, 200 steps should equal about one lap. Ten times around is about a mile.
