Medical Withdrawal Guidelines
Medical Withdrawals are issued to students whose own, overwhelming, unexpected health problems have significantly interfered with their ability to succeed academically. A Medical withdrawal allows a student to maintain the student Blue Cross / Blue Shield insurance coverage if withdrawing during the first 3 weeks of the semester.
Students may request a Medical Withdrawal any time during the semester or retroactively for a previous semester. Confidentiality is protected regarding reasons for withdrawal.
Refunds for Medical Withdrawals follow The University of Montana refund policy and are only granted for conditions that originate before or during the first 3 weeks of classes. The student may contact the Curry Health Center at 243-4330 for an appointment.
The student must provide the following information to be evaluated:
- If seen at the Curry Health Center as a client, documentation from visits within the Curry Health Center will be available for evaluation.
- If the student was seen by an off-campus physician/medical provider or counselor, they must bring:
- documentation of diagnosis and visits dates;
- any other pertinent information that you feel is helpful.
- records of hospitalization, inpatient or outpatient, mental health treatment, inpatient or outpatient drug treatment referral.
Medical conditions involving family members are generally handled as personal withdrawals.
The Curry Health Center will complete the medical withdrawal process if the student needing the withdrawal is medically unable. We may need to check with financial aid, residence life, academic advising, Blue Cross/ Blue Shield, and the registrar’s office.
If a student is interested in a Financial Aid support letter for medical reasons, please call the Curry Health Center at 243-4330 to set up an appointment.
