Student Employment

A vital component of the UM Housing Office is our student staff. They help to develop a healthy living environment within the Residence Halls and apartment communities.

Summer Employment Opportunities

UM Housing hires several different positions to assist during the summer. Senior Conference Assistants, Conference Assistants, and Desk Assistants are hired to assist with the summer conference program within the Residence Halls. Painters, grounds crew, and custodians are hired to assist in both the Residence Halls and apartments with a variety of maintenance and custodial projects. These positions are paid hourly, and may work up to 29 hours per week.

Community Assistant (CA)

Community Assistants work in University Villages directly working with approximately 100 apartment units. They serve as the prime resource for the tenants living at University Villages, complete community development programs, assist at the University Villages Community Center, and assist with the conduct process in UM Housing. This position is 20 hours per week, is hired for a full year (June-May) including the summer, and is a live-in position.

Village Assistant (VA)

Village Assistants work in Lewis and Clark Village directly working with 2-3 apartment buildings. They serve as the prime resource for the students living at Lewis and Clark Village, complete community development programs, assist at the Lewis and Clark Village Office, and assist with the conduct process in UM Housing. This position is 20 hours per week, is hired for a full year (June-May) including the summer, and is a live-in position.

Desk Assistant (DA)

Desk Assistants work at the front desk in the Residence Halls assisting students in answering questions, disbursing packages, and checking out access cards, keys, and supplies. This position works primarily in the late evening hours and is scheduled hourly. This is not a live-in position.

Student Custodians (SC)

Student Custodians assist with the custodial needs of the Residence Halls on nights, weekends, and holidays. This position is 25-28 hours per week and is hired for the academic year. This is not a live-in position.

UV Lab Monitor

The UV Lab Monitor is a student staff member who assists at the University Villages Office and Community Center by providing excellent customer service to UV tenants. Lab Monitors help residents by opening and closing the University Villages Community Center, talking with tenants and providing assistance with general UV questions, assisting with computer-related issues, instructing students on how to use UMoney to print, assisting in table setup and supervision of events scheduled at the Community Center, and assisting in the University Villages Office as needed with filing, sorting, answering phones, and other general office tasks. This position is paid hourly and is not a live-in position.

Community Development Coordinator (CDC)

The Community Development Coordinator (CDC) is a live-in staff member that works with the community development and administrative needs of a community area (1-3 Residence Halls) consisting of 400 to 750 students. They work closely with the Area Coordinator, Hall Administrative Assistant, Resident Assistants, and Desk Assistants. This position is 25 hours per week, is hired for the academic year, and is a live-in position.

Resident Assistant (RA)

Resident Assistants are assigned to each floor or wing in the Residence Halls. They serve as the prime resource for the students living in the Residence Halls, and they assist residents with personal, academic, and community concerns. RAs complete community development programs, assist at the front desk, and assist with the conduct process in UM Housing. This position is 20 hours per week, is hired for the academic year, and is a live-in position.

Technology Educators and Consultants (TEC)

TECs are responsible for assisting residents with the DirectConnect program and other computer issues within the Residence Halls and Student Affairs Offices. This position is 22 hours per week and is hired for the academic year. This is not a live-in position.
