Primary Functions

The Department of Geography seeks a Cartographer/Geographic Information Scientist to fill a one-year Lectureship, with the possibility of renewal for up to two additional years.

  • Expectations include teaching core courses in Cartography/Geographic Information Systems, including Principles of Digital Cartography and corresponding labs
  • Thematic Cartography and GIS and corresponding labs
  • One upper-division GIS methods course and labs (preferably Internet GIS or Spatial Statistics and GIS)
  • One graduate-level applied GIS course with labs (for instance, Seminar in GIS or Vector GIS)

    In addition, this person will serve as the Geospatial Research and Teaching (GReaT) Laboratories Coordinator.

  • Duties include overseeing undergraduate lab monitors, coordinating technical support for software and hardware upgrades/maintenance, overseeing Internships, and providing support to students and faculty.
  • Substantive experience teaching with ESRI products is required and expertise with Open Source software is desired.
  • Documentation of teaching excellence will be helpful in the application process.
  • Qualifications

  • A graduate degree in Geography or allied field is required.
  • A Ph.D. in Geography is strongly preferred.

    The Department of Geography has over 75 undergraduate students and over 45 graduate students, and in cooperation with the College of Forestry and Conservation offers a Certificate in Geographic Information System Sciences and Technologies.
