Primary Functions

  • The Program Coordinator II participates as a team member of the University Center (UC) demonstrating interest and concern for its overall success in fulfilling its mission. The position supervises and advises up to three student coordinators each semester in the development and planning of programs and events addressing issues of diversity. Additionally, the position works with approximately ten to fifteen other student coordinators and three program advisors within the Student Involvement and Leadership Development (SILD) program. Duties include, but are not limited to: supervising and advising students, providing peer and supervisor feedback as needed; maintaining an annual program budget as well as assisting with developing the biennial SILD budget; helping student coordinators develop various events including a diversity film series, diversity panel discussions, different cultural programming, and various other events as needed; keeping current on diversity issues within the campus, Missoula, and Montana communities, in addition to national and global trends; working collaboratively with the other programs in SILD such as the Art/Gallery, Leadership, Annual and Special Events, Game Room, Theater, and the Office of Greek Life; facilitating communication and cooperation with campus and off-campus communities and professional associations; maintaining long-term goals by providing the year-to-year continuity in assigned programs

  • Position will demonstrate: knowledge of all functional areas within the UC; ability to interact effectively and professionally with all UC staff members; demonstrated interest and concern for the many UC programs, services, and the facility; ability to promote an atmosphere conducive to cooperation with the UC staff; knowledge of college student development theory as it relates to planning appropriate events; ability to generate projects, information, and presentations covering moderately complex subject matter; ability and willingness to learn and keep current on trends and issues within student affairs, both local and nationwide; knowledge of and ability to develop and maintain a budget; knowledge and experience in program management and project planning; program evaluation and needs assessment tools; skill and experience with student advising and counseling; knowledge of risk management and contract management practices; knowledge of strategic planning processes, especially as they relate to co-curricular programs and activities; knowledge of office practices and procedures and business English, spelling, grammar and composition; knowledge and experience with supervisory practices and procedures; effective public relations, interpersonal, and communication skills to develop rapport with a diverse group of individuals; ability to make sound decisions and remain calm and professional at all times; effective time management and organizational skills with the ability to complete tasks while paying attention to detail; skill in the operation of personal computers and related word processing, and database software with the ability to learn other software; ability to maintain accurate files; ability to plan and schedule events; general knowledge and understanding of marketing and public relations; ability to use standard office equipment; copiers, fax machine, and multi-line phone system
  • Minimum Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field, and two (2) years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Demonstrated knowledge of standard office practices and procedures; business English, spelling, composition, and grammar
  • Effective interpersonal, public relations, and communication skills, including ability to work with a diverse population
  • Demonstrated experience and understanding of event planning practices and procedures
