Primary Functions

  • Position works under the direction of the University Center Business Manager and supervises the UC Shipping Express operation, which includes a “Federal Contract Postal Station” that sells US Postal Service (USPS) products and services; a United Parcel Service (UPS) & FedEx shipping center; a Private Mailbox (PMB) receiving service with over 300 individual mailboxes; a custom packing service; and a retail sales operation, while adhering to the contract with USPS, regulations, laws and procedures. Duties include, but are not limited to: controlling, maintaining, issuing and replenishing inventory of postal stamps; auditing and insuring accuracy and accountability; supervising the daily operation of UC Shipping Express including personnel supervision, assisting with budgeting, planning and execution; working as a team member of the UC demonstrating interest and concern for its overall success in fulfilling its mission

  • Position will demonstrate: experience in retail industry with emphasis on customer service and cash handling procedures and controls; knowledge of and ability to apply USPS, UPS, and FedEx shipping requirements and procedures; ability to provide positive, helpful, and efficient customer service, including the ability to handle difficult customers and remain calm and professional in stressful situations; effective public relations, interpersonal, and oral and written communication skills, including ability to work with diverse groups of individuals; ability to create and maintain effective and professional relationships with others; working knowledge of accounting principles and practices; knowledge of basic GAAP standards and auditing procedures; ability to maintain operating budget; ability to assist with the development and execution of a business plan; knowledge and experience with cash handling practices and procedures with the ability to handle cash accurately and reconcile individual tills; ability to analyze and interpret information; ability to prepare relevant reports and insure integrity of data; organizational, time management, and multi-tasking skills, and meet deadlines in a busy environment with attention to detail; ability to maintain supply inventory; knowledge of supervisory practices and procedures (ability to assign work, organize, direct, schedule priorities; determine staffing needs; train new employees in all phases of operation; interview, hire, set performance standards, conduct evaluations for employees); ability to exercise sound judgment and make routine decisions; ability to maintain confidentiality; knowledge of or ability to learn the functional areas within the UC; demonstrated skill in the operation of personal computers and related word processing, spreadsheet and database software (MS Word, Excel, Access) with the ability to learn new software; demonstrated skill in the operation of standard office equipment; copiers, 10-key calculator; ability to perform related physical activity; ability to work a flexible work schedule, including occasional evenings, weekends and/or holidays
  • Minimum Job Qualifications

  • High school graduation and two (2) years related work experience in retail industry or an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to perform physical activity: Lifting: floor to 36 inches weighing up to 70#, floor to overhead weighing up to 20#; carrying: front carry up to 70# for 10 feet or less; up to 30# up and down 2 flights of stairs; pushing/pulling carts and freight 100# peak and 70# sustained; static trunk forward bending form standing position; reaching with arms in all directions; occasionally working from height of 70 inches; balancing while climbing stairs; walking on even and uneven surfaces distances up to 1000 feet over a period of time; hand grip strength maximum of 80# force in both hands; manual hand dexterity to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects; wrist-finger speed: repeated movements of the fingers, hands, and wrists; stand on feet for extended periods. A Physical Screening will be administered prior to a final offer of employment.
