Position is responsible for overseeing, coordinating and implementing all technical aspects for the Proscenium-style University Theatre, duties include: provides technical advance of upcoming events including: meeting with potential clients and conducting walk-through tours of the facility, scheduling use of the Theatre for load-in/out and rehearsals, and using work order desk to schedule electricians and supplemental equipment; generates and implements lighting, sound reinforcement and production designs; maintains facility and upgrades equipment; hires, trains and supervises technical staff; establishes and performs a preventative maintenance schedule; inspects, maintains and repairs sound, lighting, rigging, electrical and other Theatre equipment (including carpet and vacuum cleaners) to ensure client needs are met and to maintain the safety of the technicians; performs accurate and timely bill out of services; finds new and innovative ways to generate revenue, control expenses and promote a productive work environment; works an irregular schedule as needed
Position will demonstrate: effective written communication skills with the ability to write, edit, and layout documents and materials in a variety of formats suitable for the intended audience; ability to match client’s technical needs to the Theatre’s capabilities, while maintaining a high level of production standards, knowledge of a broad range of lighting and sound reinforcement systems; ability to accurately estimate costs; organizational, time management, and multi-tasking skills and ability to meet deadlines in a busy environment with attention to detail; knowledge of lighting and sound reinforcement theory; ability to draft lighting plots; understanding of the Theatre’s electrical systems in order to safely circuit lighting instruments; understanding of rigging systems to safely hang lighting instruments, soft goods and other production elements; knowledge of supervisory practices and procedures; ability to schedule adequate personnel to efficiently and safely implement production plan; knowledge of budgeting and financial planning principles and practices; ability to exercise sound judgment and act with initiative; knowledge of and ability to maintain safety standard; ability to anticipate future technical demands and propose long and short term upgrades; ability to operate personal computers, related word processing, spreadsheet and database software; effective public relations, interpersonal and oral communication skills with the ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with a diverse group of individuals; skill in operating, repairing and maintaining sound, lighting, rigging and other electrical equipment; ability to keep abreast of current industry standards and technology; ability to work safely on ladders, catwalks, trusses, pinrails and grid systems

Bachelor’s degree in related field or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience

Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with hanging equipment and scenery in a hemp/counterweighted house operating, repairing and maintaining sound, lighting, rigging and other electrical equipment
Demonstrated knowledge of supervisory practices and procedures
Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities in a busy environment
Demonstrated knowledge of technical theatre skills, applications, maintenance and procedures
Knowledge of budget management practices and procedures
Demonstrated knowledge of work safety practices and procedures
Effective communication skills with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
Must be able to work an irregular schedule including nights and weekends
