Desk Assistant

The Desk Assistant (DA) is a student staff member who assists the community development of the residence hall by providing excellent customer service at the residence hall front desk. Desk Assistants help residents by answering questions from students and guests, checking out temporary access cards and keys, disbursing packages, answering the phone, and providing general customer service for resources provided at the front desks. Compensation: This position varies in hours per week and is paid state minimum wage- $8.15 per hour.

2017-2018 DA Application Process


All New Desk Assistant and Returning Desk Assistant candidates must complete an application to be considered for the position. Applications for new DAs are available from early April to early July each year and positions are offered beginning in mid-August and continue until all positions are filled. Additional positions may be filled throughout the academic year as needed.


We will conduct phone interviews with DA candidates in mid-July for positions beginning in the end of August.

Hiring Notification

DA candidates will be contacted in mid-August to inform them if they will be offered a position or not for the 2017-2018 academic year. Applications for candidates not immediately offered a position are kept on file for one year and candidates may contact Residence Life at any time if they have questions.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 2.25 GPA
  • Ability to work variable hours, primarily late evening hours
  • Possess a general level of maturity and judgement
  • Be a full-time student
  • Be in good conduct standing with the University
