The Resident Assistant is a part-time (20 hours per week) live-in student responsible for a floor or wing of a residence hall consisting of 23 to 52 students. They work in all phases of the residential living experience alongside the Area Coordinator and are responsible for their floor community. They foster an atmosphere for academic, social, cultural, and emotional growth in the residence hall by serving as an advisor to the residents, and they assist in the enforcement of all University and hall policies. They are responsible for the general well-being, community development, and student learning environment in the residence hall. Please read the RA Position Description for additional information about the RA position. This position is 20 hours per week.
Students interested in serving as an RA in a Living Learning Communities should explore the LLC descriptions to learn more about these unique communities. All LLC RA candidates will answer additional questions on their application specific to the communities they are interested in serving in.
Compensation: RAs earn an on-campus room and meal plan, and they may earn a small stipend based on their residence hall placement and meal plan choice.
RA Application Process
All RA candidates must complete an online RA application to be considered for the position. The new RA Application opens Monday, November 20, 2017, and closes Monday, February 12, 2018. The returning RA Application opens Monday, November 20, 2017, and closes Wednesday, January 24, 2018 (information regarding the returning RA application was emailed to all current RAs).
Group Process Interview
All new RA candidates must attend one of the two scheduled group process interviews the week of February 18-24, 2018. Group process is a portion of the interview process where RA candidates are given different activities to work through as a group. In early-February, people with completed applications will receive an email to schedule a group process interview and an individual interview.
All RA candidates must attend a 30-minute individual interview. These interviews for new RA candidates will take place February 19- 23, 2018. This interview will consist of a question and answer session with the questions more biographical in nature so we can get to know who you are, why you are interested in being an RA, and what kind of activities, jobs, and experiences you have been involved in. In early-February, people with completed applications will receive an email to schedule a group process interview and an individual interview.
Returning RA candidate interviews will take place February 5-9, 2018. This interview will consist of a question and answer session aimed at understanding why you want to return to the RA role, how you will keep yourself motivated, what your goals for the year are, and how you are working to further develop any areas of growth identified in your mid-year evaluation. Returning RA applicants will receive an email in late-January to schedule their returner interview.
All RA candidates will be notified of their hiring status on Friday, March 9, 2018.
