Undergraduate Research and Creative Scholarship

As an undergraduate at Montana's flagship university, your opportunity to engage in meaningful research is enhanced by UM's support and commitment to academic research. Undergraduates involved in research at public research universities such as UM, benefit from their close contact with world-class research faculty and graduate-student mentors. Research opportunities exist within all UM disciplines, connecting you with cutting-edge research experience and involving you in bringing new knowledge to your discipline. This is an invaluable hands-on application of classroom learning and skills training that will benefit you for the rest of your life.

This website also contains information on the annual University of Montana Conference on Undergraduate Research (UMCUR), which is now in its second decade. Every year, over 100 UM students present their research and creative scholarship at this conference, which is free and open to the public. The call for papers and online submission forms can be found by clicking here.

Also contained in this website are links to information on how to conduct research in various disciplines, along with information on best practices for presenting your research. One superb feature is a PowerPoint template for making professional posters.

We wish you the best of success with your undergraduate research endeavors!
