Community Outreach

The University of Montana Athletic Training Program provides AT services to campus and community members primarily serving Griz Club Hockey & Griz Club Lacrosse teams, as well as Missoula Area Youth Hockey.  We provide direct access to athletic healthcare for over 500 student-athletes.  These patients and their families have access to licensed athletic trainers for throughout the year. Dr. Carla Fritz serves as our medical director and we have developed an extensive interprofessional collaborative network of healthcare professionals for consultations and referrals. Glacier Ice Rink built a satellite athletic training facility for our outreach program to utilize throughout the year. In this facility we house a treatment table, treatment modalities, a stationary bike, therapeutic exercise equipment, and other athletic training equipment. Utilizing the Glacier Ice Rink Satellite facility in addition to dedicating time in the AT Sports Injury Clinic in McGill Hall (235) in the afternoons for injury evaluation and treatments, allows us to increase our overall services provided and increasing hands-on clinical experiences for our MAT students.

In the last 5 years, we have:

  • Dedicated over 3,500 hours providing athletic training services to youth and club sports participants
  • Rendered 4374 athletic training services, including injury evaluations, baseline screenings, and treatments.
  • Estimated value of services over the 5-year period total $275,000.
