Bud Moore Graduate Research Endowment
William Robert (Bud) Moore was a well-known forester and conservationist from Florence, Mont., who homesteaded in Condon later in his life. Formerly the Division Chief of Fire Control and Air Operations for the Forest Service Northern Region, Moore wrote and spoke on sustainable forestry, trapping, hunting, and other wilderness topics. He retired in 1974 and received an honorary doctorate from the University of Montana that same year. Moore published his book The Lochsa Story: Land Ethics in the Bitterroot Mountains in 1996. His archival collection at the Mansfield Library at the University of Montana contains articles, photographs, videos, maps, journals, notebooks, research files, correspondence, and other personal papers created by and about Bud Moore, which document his life and work.
