McGill Hall Asbestos Identification and Testing Timeline

Nov. 19, 2018: First complaint of issue in room 212, McGill Hall. No asbestos detected at this time.

Dec. 12, 2018: While making a routine repair to an oil valve, Facilities technician noticed white powder and immediately called asbestos manager. Once on scene, asbestos manager confirmed presence of asbestos. Area contained.

Jan. 19, 2019: Initial testing conducted – two wipe tests and air samples.

 Jan. 21, 2019: Eurofins Asbestos Analytical Reports (T190212 and T190213) received – wipe and air sampling.

Jan. 23, 2019: Additional sampling protocol implemented. More samples collected.

Jan. 24, 2019: Additional wipe samples collected.

Jan. 25, 2019: Eurofins Asbestos Analytical Report (T190299) received — air sampling.

Jan. 28, 2019:  Completed abatement of Room 212. Suite still closed.

Eurofins Asbestos Analytical Report (T190331) received at 4 p.m. — wipe tests.

At 4:10 p.m., University officials met and decision was made to close ASUM Child Care Center in McGill Hall due to the presence of asbestos and to relocate the children and staff to the nearby Phyllis J. Washington College of Education and Human Services Building.

Parents were notified beginning at 6 p.m.

Overnight, Facilities staff moved ASUM Child Care Center to new location.

Jan. 29, 2019: ASUM Child Care Center opened in its new, temporary location in Phyllis J. Washington College of Education and Human Services.

Conducted additional sampling on areas in McGill adjacent to ASUM Child Care Center.

Jan. 31, 2019: Eurofins Asbestos Analytical Report (T190386 and T190368) received.

University officials met and decision was made to close McGill Hall until further notice due to the presence of asbestos.

University officials met with parents of children at ASUM Child Care Center.

Feb. 1, 2019: University officials met with faculty, staff and students impacted by closure of McGill Hall.
