Activity Classes : Dance

Information

Students enrolling in courses taught at UM's Fitness and Recreation Center must present a Griz Card validating that the Campus Recreation Fee has been paid for that semester. 

NOTE: For all ACTivity Classes: 

  1. There are additional Montana Board of Regents approved fees with courses that are noted with that course.  Please visit the detailed course information within Cyberbear for more information.  
  2. Grading Policy strictly enforced- classes missed prior to and after late registration count towards total absences allowed.
  3. Auditing of ACTivity Classes is not allowed

Beginning Aerobic Dance / OULA

  • Demonstrate rhythmic aerobic exercise with stretching and strength training routines with the goal of improving all elements of fitness (flexibility, muscular strength, and cardio-vascular fitness).
  • Demonstrate various routines comprising a number of different dance-like exercises.

Argentine Tango

  • Learn the musical genre and accompanying social dance activity originating at the end of the 19th century
  • Develop a variety of styles that developed in different regions and eras

Bellydance

This course will provide a foundation in basic movements, rhythms, history, and culture as it relates to Middle Eastern dance. Explore the difference between various styles of dance while increasing flexibility, range of motion, muscle strength, improved balance, coordination, and posture. Graded Credit/No Credit. Equipment Needs: Appropriate Dress, loose fitting clothing.

Introduction to Hula

Learn basics of Hula as well as background and fundamentals of the Hawaiian dance. This class will explore hula implements, hula Kahiko, Tahitian and Maori dances. Graded Credit/No Credit. Equipment Needs: Appropriate Dress, loose fitting clothing.

Tribal Style Belly Dance

This class explores the basic movements of the improvisational language of Tribal Belly Dance. Emphasis is placed on posture and will focus on core strength, isolations, musical interpretation, and improvisation. Graded Credit/No Credit. Equipment Needs: Appropriate dress, loose fitting clothing.

Nia

  • Learn the mind/body physical conditioning program that initially stood for Non-Impact Aerobics, a health and fitness alternative that emerged in the '80's, and evolved to include neurological integrative practices and teachings.
  • Combine martial arts, modern dance arts and yoga in a workout set to music
