Professional Journalism Opportunities

In a recent survey of Montana Journalism graduates, more than 95 percent of those responding said they either had a job or were self-employed shortly after graduation. Of the most frequently mentioned job categories, journalism, marketing, and public relations were at the top.

Our graduates say they had a significant workplace advantage as a result of the practical, hands-on experience they received here. They also praised the faculty and the culture of collaboration and communication between staff and students.

You can hear from some of our alumni here and from alumni in each of our degree programs here.

All students are required to complete an internship prior to graduation.

Job and Internship Opportunities

We regularly share job and internship opportunities from qualifying news and media organizations with our students and alumni. Opportunities and listings can be emailed to journalism@mso.umt.edu

If you're a student or alumnus, check out our Montana J-School Internships, Jobs & Scholarships Facebook group and register for the most up-to-date information on current professional opportunities.

Volunteer Opportunities

There are several opportunities available to students wishing to volunteer and gain practical, first-hand knowledge of various media while enrolled in the program. Check back for more information regarding volunteer opportunities. In the meantime, email journalism@mso.umt.edu with any inquiries.
