60 Artists, 60 Artworks, 60 Years: Celebrating the Archie Bray Foundation

MMAC pays tribute to the 60th anniversary celebration of the Archie Bray Foundation for the Ceramic Arts.  This exhibition will coincide with ceramics exhibitions across the state and include a diverse selection of ceramics created by UM faculty, alumni and past Bray residents.  The exhibition continues at the UM Mansfield library with Peter and Henry Meloy: Collaborations.

Featuring Hood’s bas relief and sculptural glass, which incorporate a wide variety of natural associations. Included are pieces from Hood’s Poems for the Blind and Hart series. A UM alum, Hood received his Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1973, working with noted ceramist Rudy Autio.

Organized by Scripps College, this is the first in-depth retrospective of painter, critic and professor Laurie Fendrich. Mark Stevens, Pulitzer Prize-winning co-author of De Kooning: An American Master, wrote the essay for the Laurie Fendrich exhibition catalog.

Provides an unprecedented opportunity for visitors to experience selected works by some of the most notable artists from the late 18th to the early 20th century. Centered on portraiture, the exhibition includes works by Archipenko, Bonheur, Bougeureau, Ernst, Gauguin, Magritte, Renoir, Romney, van Rysselberghe and Waterhouse. Concurrently MMAC presents never before exhibited prints from the MMAC Permanent Collection.

Three Centuries of European Prints from the MMAC Permanent Collection

Concurrent with Renoir, Magritte, Gauguin and other European Masterpieces from a Private Colection, this exhibition will nclude never before exhibited prints by Giovanni Battista Piranesi, Charles-Nicolas Cochin (after Carl van Loo), Nicolas De Larmessin (after Nicholas Lancret), Jean-Michel Moreau and François Boucher (after Antoine Watteau), as well as more familiar works by Honoré Daumier, Jean Louis Forain, Eugène Delacroix, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Marc Chagall, Käthe Kollwitz, Alberto Giacometti, Pablo Picasso and Joan Miró among others.

The Original Man: The Life and Work of Montana Architect A.J. Gibson
August 20 - October 23, 2010

This exhibition features models, blueprints and photographs of the important work of Missoula architect A.J. Gibson (1826-1927), as well as photographs of this life and family. The exhibition is organized in conjunction with several Gibson building centennials:

The exhibition is co-curated by MMAC and Dr. Rafael Chacón, UM Professor of Art History and Criticism whose book of the same title was published by MMAC and The Universtiy of Montana Press in 2008.
