Welcome to the Skaggs School of Pharmacy, the only Pharmacy School in the State of Montana. The school was established in 1907 at Montana State College, and moved to its current location at the University of Montana in 1913. The School is currently located in the College of Health in the Skaggs building and provides a great environment to interact with students from other health professions programs, such as physical therapy, public health, social work, allied sciences, and (coming soon) occupational therapy. The School offers high-quality education: Doctor of Pharmacy degree (Pharm.D.), Master of Science (M.S.) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degrees in toxicology, medicinal chemistry and pharmaceutical sciences and drug design, as well as dual degrees: Pharm.D./Ph.D, Pharm.D./M.S., Pharm.D./MPH, and Pharm.D./MBA.

The School has two departments, Pharmacy Practice and Biomedical and Pharmaceutical Sciences, both with important roles in preparing student pharmacists during the 4-year Pharm.D. program to practice as future health care professionals in a variety of settings.

• The Department of Biomedical and Pharmaceutical Sciences is home to a robust biomedical and pharmaceutical sciences research enterprise encompassing several research centers and graduate programs in Toxicology, Pharmaceutical Science and Drug Design and Medicinal Chemistry. The faculty in this department provide teaching in biomedical and pharmaceutical science courses in the Pharm.D. curriculum and graduate programs, and provide important foundational knowledge on which clinical and scientific skills are built.
• The Department of Pharmacy Practice is composed of pharmacy clinicians with advanced clinical specialty pharmacy training practicing in a variety setting such as community pharmacy, ambulatory care, general/internal medicine, nutrition, psychiatry, neurology, and infectious diseases among others, as well as behavioral, social and administrative faculty/scientists. The pharmacy clinicians provide instruction in the didactic Pharm.D. curriculum, outreach and screening events, but also practice as licensed pharmacists where they also precept pharmacy students during their introductory and advanced pharmacy practice experiences in P1-P4 years of the Pharm.D. program. The Department is also home to an on-campus, full-service pharmacy located in Curry Health Center and a non-dispensing pharmacy in the Skaggs Building that provides clinical pharmacy services including medication therapy management, a drug Information service and a rural interprofessional health screening program called ImProving Health Among Rural Montanans (IPHARM). Our students are given opportunities to participate in variety of outreach programs offered by this Department.

The Skaggs Pharm.D. program is the only program in the state of Montana. It combines rigorous basic science education with extensive and varied clinical and interprofessional experiences in and outside of the classroom while being trained and supported by highly accomplished and caring faculty, staff and administrators. The students are involved early in clinical experiences and outreach for Montana citizen across the state and throughout their studies continue with progressively challenging clinical experiences. In addition to solid high-quality education, our program offers unique clinical experiences and exposure throughout your PharmD program, equipping our graduates with skills for providing care, population health and outreach, and rural and underserved health.
