University of Montana Staff Senate facilitates communication, cooperation, and engagement between the administration and the staff of the University of Montana. Staff Senate promotes and works to improve the working conditions and professional welfare of UM's staff - "The Heart of the Grizzly."
Staff Senate is a conduit for staff communication with Administration and key campus decision makers. At this critical juncture, it is imperative to solicit feedback. Your ideas, comments, and suggestions will help guide our actions and conversations with the President’s Cabinet and community members. We recognize contract professionals do not have a seat at the shared governance table, and therefore encourage our entire community of colleagues to provide feedback.
Currently, three prominent campus initiatives are influencing our campus climate.
- UM Strategic Vision: Helps define the identity of UM through vision and values and guides our future direction.
- Academic Program and Administrative Service Prioritization: Gathers information from campus to make strategic, data-informed decisions about how to best invest declining resources.
- Voluntary Severance Offer: Approximately 20% of staff and professionals eligible for the VSO have agreed to break from UM. The University will need to immediately fill some of these critical pockets and develop a strategic, long-term staffing plan.
