The Staff Senate Bylaws Committee has proposed several revisions to the Staff Senate Bylaws. The Staff Senate has approved these changes but will allow fourteen days for review and comment from staff, as required by the Bylaws. Bylaws with suggested changes. The UM classified staff has completed their election of the 2013-14 Staff Senate. There is a full Senate of thirty members with some new faces and some experienced Senators on board. Current Senators and new Senators both will elect officers at the June 12 Senate meeting. On Saturday, September 14, Staff Senate will be sponsoring the Diploma Dash 5K Fun Run/Walk beginning at 10 a.m. at the Van Buren footbridge with a route toward town. The entry fee for the race is $20 for UM students and $25 for everyone else. Profits will be used for UM student scholarships. Write a check to Staff Senate Scholarships and send it to Heather Hibbard in Student Support Services. Or, an easy way to contribute is by making small, regular contributions through payroll deduction. Even $5 per month would be a great donation! Your contributions are tax deductible! Employees must be employed at least 3/4 time for five or more consecutive years before being eligible for a dependent tuition waiver benefit. Employees who utilize the faculty and staff tuition waiver are not eligible for a dependent tuition waiver during the same academic term. Only one dependent may utilize the dependent tuition waiver in an academic term. A dependent includes the employee's spouse or adult dependent, as defined in the MUS Employee Benefits Plan, and financially dependent children as defined by the IRS who are unmarried and under age 25. The tuition waiver benefit for dependents shall be for 50% of the residential tuition. Dependents may not use the tuition waiver benefit to attend law school or obtain a graduate degree. To qualify for a Tuition Fee Waiver of in-state tuition for regular courses of study at The University of Montana, eligible staff members must have completed their probationary period, must be on permanent employee status, must be working at least .75 full-time employment, and must have obtained approval from their supervisor and administration.
