As staff members at UM, we tend to get “tied” to our own particular job without realizing there is so much happening on and around campus. What if you were given an opportunity to learn more about what happens here? What if you were given an opportunity to learn new skills and meet new people – people you probably see on the sidewalk now, but don’t know? Would you take advantage of that opportunity?

If you are a full-time permanent classified staff member, the USA Program has been designed to provide you with that opportunity. Although the program will be coordinated by the Office of the Vice President for Administration & Finance, departments and individuals from all of UM are participating in the delivery of the curriculum. With the help of a team leadership facilitator, you will not only have the opportunity to learn the main UM campus but our other 3 campuses as well. There will also be 5 leadership sessions aimed at improving individual and team skills. We think that as you learn more about UM, your appreciation for what it does, how things happen and how you contribute toward its mission will grow.

The curriculum of the UM Staff Ambassador’s Program consists of two types of sessions that are intermingled throughout the program year.

The first session type introduces the class to areas of the University they may not get to see and learn about during their daily work routine. University tours will shed light on the various divisions of our campus.

The second session type provides specific skills enhancement training to class members. Professional trainers will provide an interactive and enjoyable learning experience. Learned skills may be applied to any job type, and perhaps even in your personal life.

To provide staff an opportunity to learn about all of the divisions of The University of Montana;

To provide interesting and fun professional development opportunities to staff;

To promote a better understanding by staff as to the value of their role within the University and their contribution towards our commitment to “service learning and community building” on and off campus; and

To foster increased communication across departments and divisions by creating a bond among the members of each group
