After Your Site is Migrated

What you need to do after your site is migrated

Web Technology Services (WTS) will do the actual migration of your site to the new template. While your site is being migrated and before you finish the steps below, you will not be able to publish changes to your site

Steps to be completed by the site owner:

  1. Watch the 90-minute video introduction to editing sites in the New Template.
    1. We have also created a series of tutorial videos on updating and improving your site after it has been migrated
    2. If you need further assistance, please visit the Virtual Office Hours that we host on Zoom every workday from 3-5 p.m.
  2. Much of the content on your homepage will not move over, so you will need to rebuild the homepage. Review the examples of Homepages in the New Template that we have put together, and use these as guides for building out your new homepage.
    1. Please note there is an example of an Academic homepage.
    2. There is also a more generic Campus Department homepage.
  3. Update your site's Unit Footer:
    1. Read the guide on updating the information in your site's footer.
  4. Stories no longer exist in the new template. We have several blocks that can work as replacements and the Blocks page on the Cascade Support site has a description of all the blocks and instructions for how to add them to your site.

Automatic Migration of Plugins to Blocks

When your site is converted to the new template, we will automatically convert the following plugins into their equivalent block:

  • Buttons
  • Accordions
  • Form Builder
  • Org Charts

We will also take any blocks that are not attached to a page and move them into the _archive/unused-blocks/ folder. Please review all the content found in this folder and delete what you don't still need.
