NNALSA Registration and Competition Information

The National Native American Law Student Association (NNALSA), in partnership with the University of Montana, Alexander Blewett III School of Law NALSA Chapter, are excited to host the 32nd Annual NNALSA Moot Court Competition.

We have met the 36 team cap. Email mootcourt@nationalnalsa.org with individual names by team and school to be added to the waitlist.

Individual Eligibility

To participate in the competition, competitors must be in good standing with National NALSA and their local NALSA chapter. Additionally, competitors must meet the financial obligations of National NALSA and their local NALSA chapter membership. Competitors must submit a letter from their local NALSA chapter President and/or Secretary attesting to that competitor's participation in their local NALSA chapter and interest in advancing National NALSA's mission. If an interested student's school does not have a local NALSA chapter, see Rule 4.3.

Competition Deadlines

To be eligible to participate in the 2024 NNALSA Moot Court competition, teams must register, submit a brief that conforms to the NNALSA Moot Court Rules, pay a $400 registration fee, and verify their submission of membership dues.

Team Registration Deadline: December 1, 2023

  • Each team must pay the registration fee of $400 per team and meet the requirements of Rules 4.1–4.3 by December 1, 2023, in order to compete.
  • Once your team registration form is processed you will receive an email with your team number and link to upload document(s)/letter(s) as stated in NNALSA Moot Court Rule 4.2 or 4.3. Teams will also receive additional details about submitting briefs at this time.
  • Note: Pursuant to NNALSA Moot Court Rule 5.7, Team participation will be capped at thirty-six (36) teams. Participation will be granted on a first come first served basis. In addition, each individual school is limited to four (4) teams per school. However, a waitlist will be provided in the event that more than 36 teams register. The host school and Moot Court Administrator may register teams from the waitlist on a first come, first served basis, with the exception that if a school has no teams registered, that school will be given preference over other schools with one or more teams already registered. In the event that the host school has capacity for more than thirty-six (36) teams, the host school and Moot Court Administrator may grant participation from the waitlist to more than thirty-six (36) teams.

Deadline for Submission Verifying Payment of Membership Dues: December 22, 2023

  • In accordance with NNALSA Moot Court Rule 4.2 or 4.3, each competitor must upload letter(s) / document(s) that verify (1) the individual’s local chapter has submitted its dues, (2) the individual has submitted NNALSA Individual Membership dues, (3) the individual has submitted local chapter individual membership dues, and letter from their local NALSA chapter President and/or Secretary attesting to the competitor’s participation in their local NALSA chapter and interest in advancing the Mission of NNALSA membership and local chapter dues can be paid.

Brief Submission Deadline: Friday, January 5, at 11:59 p.m. Hawai'i Standard Time (HST)

  • Each team must submit its brief online in PDF format as set forth in NNALSA Moot Court Rule 8.3(a). A team may not revise its brief after submission to the competition. Competitors will be provided a link to submit their briefs in their introductory email assigning them a team number. *Use your team number in submission of your brief. To maintain confidentiality, do not include your name or school in your brief.
