Hello,

Making new friends is one of the most common things we hear incoming students are a little nervous about each fall – you are not alone!  The good news is we have several different pre-Big Sky Experience programs offered in the weeks leading up to your first semester, providing you the chance to connect with classmates early and make great memories with new friends.

And if you aren’t able to go on one of these trips, there will be plenty of opportunities to make connections during the Big Sky Experience and during our Griz Welcome activities.

Our pre-Big Sky Experience programs provide opportunities to:

  • meet students with similar interests
  • gain valuable leadership skills
  • increase your wilderness experience
  • get involved early on campus
  • have fun
  • establish a network of friends you may have throughout your college experience—or the rest of your life!

Freshman Wilderness Experience
One of the amazing things about living in Montana is the accessible and diverse wild places you can explore. Begin your college experience by embarking on an outdoor adventure through the Freshman Wilderness Experience (FWE) and enjoy some of the most beautiful parts of Montana.

No matter where you are from or how much or little experience you have, FWE is a fantastic way to kick off college life at the University of Montana.

Flathead Lake Biological Station
You can also enjoy an overnight stay at UM’s world-class freshwater research and education facility, the Flathead Lake Biological Station

This special trip will allow students to learn about the region, explore the Bio Station and Flathead Lake, participate in hands-on research activities and get to know your fellow incoming students.

Space is limited, so register early to secure you spot on any of these trips.  We look forward to welcoming you to campus this fall.

See you soon,
