Housing accommodations

For Residence Halls, University Villages, and the Lewis and Clark Village

UM Housing and the Office for Disability Equity work together to ensure that students with disabilities can participate in UM Housing's programs, including housing.

Examples of housing accommodations:

  • Accessible rooms or bathrooms
  • Bringing a medical bed
  • First-floor room
  • Elevator access
  • Having an assistance animal
  • Personal care attendant's access to buildings
  • Remote automatic door openers
  • Roommate arrangement due to severe allergies
  • Signaling devices
  • Single occupancy rooms

Students who require the use of a service animal do not need to request housing accommodations or receive approval to live with the service animal in university housing. However, ODE recommends students connect with us so we can provide a courtesy notice to UM Housing.

Timely applications and requests are critical

UM Housing processes housing accommodation requests on a first-come, first-serve basis. Therefore, timely submission of housing applications and accommodation requests is critical.

How to request housing accommodations

  1. Complete UM Housing's online housing application as soon as possible. For the Lewis and Clark Village application, indicate the accommodations you request.
  2. Contact ODE and schedule a meeting with an ODE consultant.
  3. Submit disability documentation to us.

After you submit documentation to ODE

  • ODE will notify UM Housing of your housing accommodation request.
  • UM Housing will process accommodation requests on a first-come, first-serve basis.
