Our consultants are experienced writers and teachers who provide in-person and online writing instruction to UM community members. Moreso than specific skills or experiences, our ideal applicant will be curious, open-minded, compassionate, generous, inquisitive, flexible, and reliable. We review applications on an on-going basis and welcome applicants who would enjoy being a part of a student-centered team.

Consultants work 6-21 hours per week in daytime, evening, and weekend shifts during academic semesters and attend regular staff development meetings. We provide a substantial paid orientation to incoming consultants. The Writing Center reserves up to two consultant positions for currently enrolled graduate students. Compensation is $22 per hour.

Applicants must have completed a graduate degree or be currently enrolled in a graduate program, and must have excellent English language writing skills. Previous experience teaching or tutoring students is an asset. Applicants with diverse backgrounds and from diverse disciplines are encouraged to apply.
