Collaboration

Our daily work is informed and strengthened by collaborations across campus, the larger Montana community, as well as involvement in regional, national and international professional organizations that support rigorous research and innovative approaches to writing center programming.

Office for Student Success: The Writing and Public Speaking Center is housed with the Office for Student Success, where we work closely with TRiO, the Undergraduate Advising Center and other student services to support the academic growth and personal development of UM undergraduates.

Graduate School: We collaborate with the Graduate School to provide workshops, programming, outreach and direct writing, research and teaching support to UM graduate students. Together with the Graduate and Professional Student Association, we provide support to student researchers preparing to present at GradCon.

Branch Center: We bring our consultant services to the Branch Center for weekly drop-in hours during the academic school year.

Payne Family Native American Center: We bring our consultant services to the Payne Center for weekly drop-in hours during the academic school year.

Missoula College: We bring our consultant services to the Learning Center at Missoula College for scheduled weekly appointment hours.

Mansfield Library: Our collaboration with the Mansfield Library includes shared use of their third floor space as our tutoring headquarters, and workshop collaborations targeting different student audiences.

Office of Undergraduate Research (OUR@UM): We partner with the OUR@UM and the Davidson Honors College to provide support for students preparing for the annual UM Conference on Undergraduate Research (UMCUR).

Office of Sponsored Programs, Research Development Office and the Office of Organizational Learning and Development: We collaborate with OSP and OOLD to design and support writing initiatives that strengthen faculty teaching and writing. These include workshops focused on writing strategies and writing instruction, and faculty-only writing groups.

Writing Committee: Writing Center staff work with the campus-wide Writing Committee to advocate for effective writing instruction, curriculum development and writing assessment. The Committee also monitors the annual University-wide Program-level Writing Assessment (UPWA) which studies student writing performance to provide curricular and instructional feedback.

Writing Placement: Writing Center staff oversee the writing placement process for students on the UM Mountain Campus, Missoula College, UM Bitterroot, Helena College and Dual Enrollment Programs.
