Descriptions are the verbal depiction of key visual elements in media and live productions. Also known as audio or video descriptions, they provide important information to persons with a vision loss, literacy need, or loss of cognitive abilities. The Described and Captioned Media Program (DCMP) website provides an indepth explanation of descriptions as well as the DCMP philosohy of them.
The Audio Description Project,an initiative of the American Council of the Blind, promotes and advocates the use of high-quality Audio Descriptions in visual media where understanding content is critical.
