Graduate Student Research Council

The Graduate Student Research Council is made up of graduate students working to support and increase research-related opportunities for all fields of graduate study at the University of Montana. Our primary responsibility is planning and hosting GradCon, UM’s graduate research conference. We are also partnering with various departments to promote workshops, funding, and mentoring opportunities for your professional development.

Upcoming Events

The GSRC is pleased to offer a series of workshops this winter and spring in collaboration with on-campus resources. Workshops are designed to support students as they prepare for GradCon, as well as provide graduate students with opportunities to develop specific professional skills.

Budgets and Broader Impacts for Graduate Fellowships

Are you struggling with writing the budget for your proposal? Do questions of broader impacts seem challenging to you? Join a workshop led by Kylla Benes, Director of the Office of External Scholarships and Fellowships.

The first part of the session will focus on budgets: what information is required, how to estimate costs, writing a budget narrative, and UM resources available to you. The second half of the session will cover conceptualizing and crafting broader impact statements. Broader impacts have become an important part of selection criteria for major fellowships, and developing broader impacts that align with the fellowship, and your research and talents, is critical to success.

Date and Time: April 9th (Tuesday) 12:00 - 1:00pm

Venue: Room 021, Davidson Honors College
