The Human Resource Services (HRS) department is the centralized hub for all employment related needs at the University of Montana.
Comprised of units dedicated to employee and labor relations, compensation, recruitment, information systems, workers compensation, employment benefits, wellness, and supportive services, the HRS team is deeply committed to optimizing the employment experience for all at UM through adherence to the principals of service, compassion, and demonstrated expertise.

Shawn Blair, Associate Vice President for Human Resource Services (406) 243-5705 Maintains oversight and operational responsibility for all functions within the Human Resource Services department. Consults with administration, management, and employees on complex employment matters, develops HR policy and procedures, and manages institutional initiatives related to HRS.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS MANAGEMENT
Provides consultative services for all departments regarding proper application of the Montana University System (MUS) Staff Compensation Plan and other compensation mechanisms available. Advises and consults employees and management on MUS employee benefits plans, retirement benefits, employee wellness initiatives, workers compensation, reasonable accommodation requests under the Americans with Disabilities Act and leaves related to the Family and Medical Leave Act.

TALENT ACQUISITION & SYSTEMS MANAGEMENT
Consults and advises with departments on the recruitment and hiring process for faculty, classified staff, contract professionals, and short-term or temporary employees. Works with applicants, current employees, and outside employment agencies to attract and retain qualified candidates for vacant positions. Additionally, provides support, and oversight for all Human Resource Information Systems (HRIS), including the Banner HR module and NeoED employee management system.

EMPLOYEE & LABOR RELATIONS UNIT
Consults and advises with departments on matters related to employee performance management and evaluation, providing informed guidance related to contract interpretation, investigations related to employee performance and advice on a full range of employee relations matters, including informal and formal grievances, development of performance management plans, and corrective/disciplinary issues.

WORKFORCE SUPPORT SERVICES UNIT
Employees in this this area support over 140 departments across the University of Montana campus and our affiliate institutions, ensuring accurate data maintenance is achieved in the management and oversight of personnel actions. This unit provides assistance with personnel actions related to hiring, employment status changes, terminations, funding changes, and those directly impacting payroll processes and procedures, while providing general HRS information and assistance.
