Resources for High School Journalism and Yearbook Advisers

Journalism is a team sport.

The University of Montana School of Journalism has benefited for decades from great high school programs sending us strong student journalists to continue their education. They are the reason we often land in the top 10 programs in the National Hearst Awards. We also know how much work goes into creating those high school programs, so we are offering teachers, counselors and advisers the opportunity to order up a journalism care package from the students, faculty and staff of the the University of Montana School of Journalism.

The care packages include reporters’ notebooks, bags, water bottles and more. But, we also want to offer our help. We are more than willing to do any or all of the following programs for you all:

  • From papers to websites to broadcasts to podcasts, we can arrange to have a member of our faculty Zoom into a class to offer feedback about your content.
  • Audio storytelling. Our award-winning Montana Media Lab can offer a single or multi-part media literacy and audio storytelling workshop for students.
  • College mentors. We can connect your class or project with one of top students to offer occasional meetings and advice sessions.
  • High school speech and access. We can do a First Amendment and high school session with your staff to update the latest student press and speech cases and decisions.

If you would like a care package for your newsroom or yearbook staff or even your social studies class or history class or English class, fill out the form below and we will be in touch.
