Since 1994, the Consortium for Student Retention Data Exchange (CSRDE), at The University of Oklahoma, has coordinated the data-sharing activities of a diverse group of four-year colleges and universities. Membership has grown to over 400 institutions, representing every level of Carnegie classification, from Doctoral through Baccalaureate, public and private, and large and small. The activities of the Consortium are supported by membership fees.

Through the cooperative data-exchange efforts of these members, CSRDE is able to collect and analyze student retention and graduation data not available through public sources such as IPEDS.

The data collected are used to generate comprehensive retention reports for the member institutions. These reports examine the retention and graduation rates of students by race/ethnicity and gender against institutional characteristics such as selectivity, institutional size, and control. In addition, the data allow for the generation of peer reports for the member institutions, comparing their retention and graduation rates to those of other institutions. The data in the following tables for The University of Montana are for full-time, first-time (first time in college) bachelor degree-seeking freshmen enrolling each Fall:
