You are cordially invited to attend a seminar with Dr. Stephen M. Walt. After earning a Ph.D. in Political Science at the University of California, Berkeley, in 1983, he taught at Princeton and the University of Chicago before becoming the Academic Dean at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government. He recently stepped down from the dean’s position and is now a full-time faculty member at Harvard. His published works include The Origin of Alliances (Cornell, 1987), Revolution and War (Cornell, 1996), and Taming American Power: The Global Response to American Primacy (Norton, 2005). A leading thinker in the “realist” school of American foreign policy, he has been in the forefront of the critics who have condemned the U.S. invasion of Iraq as a self-inflicted disaster. In the 23 March 2006 issue of The London Review of Books, he and the University of Chicago’s John Mearsheimer published “The Israel Lobby.” The article, in which they claimed that the Israel lobby was primarily responsible for the American invasion of Iraq and for other distortions of our policy in the Middle East, set off shock waves around the world and remains a source of bruising controversies.
In addition, Professor Walt will give an evening lecture entitled "What Went Wrong with U.S. Foreign Policy" at 8 P.M. in the University Theatre.
