Family Weekend registration is now open!

 

2007 Schedule


FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 2

Noon: Registration -- Pick up your Family Weekend information packet and find out what's on tap for the weekend. University Center Rooms 330-333. (Registration is open until 5 p.m.)

1-3 p.m.: College Sessions -- Four of UM's most popular professors -- according to students -- will give 15-minute lectures on timely and interesting topics. University Center Theater. Free.

3 p.m.: Tours --

  • Nature walks led by UM naturalists and world-class avian researchers along the scenic Kim Williams Trail bordering campus and the Clark Fork River.
  • City tour led by popular Missoula radio personality and native Missoulian Sheila Callahan, with stops at the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, A Carousel for Missoula and the Rattlesnake Wilderness trailhead.
  • UM historic tour led by history buff and UM student Cedric Jacobson. You'll find out more about the state's 115-year-old flagship institution of higher learning.
  • Campus art tour features UM's exciting collection of art in public places, guided by staff from the Montana Museum of Art & Culture at UM.

Dinner on your own

7 p.m.:

  • Volleyball -- Help UM win the W.A.R. (Women's Attendance Record) when the ladies take on cross-state rivals Montana State. It's also Griz Pride Night, and fans are encouraged to wear maroon and silver from head to toe. The first 500 fans will receive Montana Volleyball wristbands. The fan with the most Griz Pride wins $100. Family Weekenders will be admitted free.
  • Movie -- "Ratatouille," a recently released Disney cartoon comedy that's fun for the whole family. University Center Theater. Free.

7:30 p.m.:

  • Concert -- UM Symphony Orchestra: UM's student orchestra under the direction of Assistant Professor Luis Millan. Cost is $5 general, $3 students/seniors at the door.
  • Play -- "The Good Person of Setzuan," a UM Theatre and Dance production. Cost is $11 general, $10 students/seniors, $5 children 12 and under.

8-9:30 p.m.: Stargazing Under the Big Sky -- Sip hot chocolate on the roof of the Skaggs Building and discover why Montana is called "Big Sky Country" with UM astronomers Dave and Diane Friend as your guides. If it's a clear night, it's optimum for stargazing. (Event will be canceled in case of cloudy or inclement weather.) Free.


SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 3

9:30 a.m.: Registration -- University Center Ballroom foyer, third floor.

10 a.m.: Pre-game Brunch -- Enjoy a buffet breakfast, a welcome by President George M. Dennison and entertainment by UM students. The President will give away a $1,000 tuition waiver to one lucky family. Must be present to win, and seating is limited. Cost is $12.50 per person (not included in your student's meal plan). Reservations required.

  • Childrens' brunch -- Younger siblings can enjoy pancakes and finger foods along with kids' entertainment and games under the supervision of ASUM daycare employees and UM Advocates while parents and older family members attend the pre-game brunch. $5 per child. Reservations required.

10 a.m.: Tailgating -- For a more informal alternative to the pre-game brunch, join thousands of Griz fans for tailgating before the big game. Menu: burgers, grilled chicken breasts or brats and sauerkraut with chips, potato salad and a beverage of your choice. Cost is $7 per person (not included in your student's meal plan). Reservations required.

12:05 p.m.: Football Game -- Montana Grizzlies vs. Portland State Vikings. Washington-Grizzly Stadium. Sold out.

12:05 p.m.: Football TV Party -- Watch the Montana Grizzlies-Portland State game on a movie-theater screen and enjoy a free nacho bar and great door prizes, University Center Theater. Free.

2-4 p.m.: Tours -- Nature walks and campus history -- meet in the University Center Atrium in front of the UC Market. Free.

Dinner on your own.

8-10 p.m.: Pool Party -- Suit up and enjoy an evening swim at the Grizzly Pool. Family members are invited to swim for free.


SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 4

7 a.m.: Sunrise Ceremony -- Traditional American Indian Sunrise Ceremony to honor families, led by Patrick Weasel Head, director of UM's American Indian Student Services Program. Free.

9-11 a.m.: Farewell Breakfast -- Say goodbye to your student during an informal continental breakfast in the University Center Atrium before heading home. Pick up a Family Weekend memento. Cost is $5 per person (not included in your student's meal plan. Reservations required.
