知識や技術を何か一つ身につけていれば引退する日まで安心、という時代はもう終わろうとしています。大学を卒業し雇用市場へと飛び込んでいく人は多くいますが、時代の変化に適応できる人は困難な状況に打ち勝つことができる、と言えるでしょう。私たちは、学生の皆さんが論理的な思考方法、創造的探求心、効率的なコミュニケーション、倫理的な生き方を身に着けることができるよう、お手伝いします。

今日そして未来へと、日本からの留学生を含むすべての学生が成功できるよう、努力します。過去３年間、モンタナ大学では一学期あたり平均43名の日本人留学生を受け入れてきました。世界70ヶ国以上から集う留学生はモンタナ大学の学生人口の約6%に及びます。

第四の柱 

モンタナ大学の学生はキャンパスとコミュニティに深く関わってきました。私たちは留学生を支えるための特別なサービスやプログラムを用意しています。留学生のコミュニティでは、学生は密接に関わり合い、お互いに留学生活をサポートしています。 

モンタナ大学の留学生・海外交換教員サポートセンターでは、留学生の支援を全面的に行なっています。ビザ・移民関係のサポート、留学生オリエンテーション、留学生向けの特別プログラム（イエローストーン国立公園やグレーシャー国立公園への旅行など）、実地研修プログラム等があり、様々なアドバイスを提供しています。また学内や地域の奉仕活動のために、紹介状を発行しています。 

留学生地域住民交流プログラムを通して、留学生はミズーラ市の一般家庭で文化交流をすることができます。 

グローバルパートナーズプログラムでは、在校生が新しくモンタナ大学に来る留学生とパートナーになり、留学生が大学生活にいち早く慣れるようサポートをしています。

留学生の入学やビザの手続きに関する質問は担当者がいつでもお受けしています。 

学生相談窓口にはモンタナ大学の留学生と長年携わってきたプロフェッショナルなアドバイザーがいます。 

毎年春には、留学生の母国とその独自の文化を祝うインターナショナルフェスティバルが開催されます。

モンタナ大学では、授業は必ずしも教室で行われるとは限りません。 

「実践」は学びにおいてとても重要です。モンタナ大学では選び切れないほど多くの体験学習が用意されています。周辺地域へのボランティアプログラムと150以上の学生団体がモンタナ大学をクリエイティブな場所へ導いています。（モンタナ大学にはローズプログラムやフルブライドプログラムの受賞者、そしてピューリッツァー賞受賞者がいます。）

PILLAR 4

A highly engaged student body on campus, in our community and beyond. We have many services and programs specifically for international students. Our international student community is tight-knit and supportive.

Our International Students and Scholars Office on campus is dedicated to supporting international students at UM. It provides visa and immigration advising, orientation programming, special international student programming (such as trips to Yellowstone and Glacier national parks), Optional Practical Training (OPT) advising and referrals to campus and community services.

We also take part in the Missoula International Friendship Program. This program matches international students with Community Friends to provide opportunities for cultural exchange and participation in American family activities.  

Our Global Partners Program matches new international students with current UM students to help ease the transition to life at college and in the U.S. 

We also have a dedicated international admissions representative who is your contact for admissions questions, questions about the visa application process and more.

Office of Student Success has advisors on staff with experience working with international students at UM.

And the annual  International Festival is a celebration of all our students, their cultures and homelands.

We have multiple student-run groups dedicated to our international students. These include both the International Student Association and the Japanese Student Association. See here for an example of one of their activities — video of performance at International Festival.

Here, classrooms don’t fit inside classrooms.

Doing is a huge part of learning at UM. Countless hands-on learning opportunities, local volunteer and service programs, and more than 150 student groups make the university an intense breeding ground for new ideas. (Not to mention Rhodes and Fulbright scholars and Pulitzer Prize winners.)
