Outreach and Impact
Connecting Research, Education, and Community
PharmBioSci is committed to sharing knowledge beyond the university. Our outreach programs bring research, teaching, and expertise into the broader community through partnerships with schools, public organizations, and industry. Our faculty also volunteer their time in local initiatives and community organizations, reflecting our belief that being part of a university also means being a supportive and engaged member of the wider community.
Through workshops, public events, and collaborative projects, we aim to make academic knowledge accessible, inspire future students, and contribute to informed communities.

K–12 Education Programs
Our faculty and students work with local schools to bring engaging educational experiences into classrooms. Programs include guest lectures, hands-on activities, research and curriculum partnerships designed to support teachers and spark student curiosity.
Activities may include:
- Classroom visits and demonstrations
- STEM or subject-specific activity days
- Career exploration talks
- School field trips to campus
- Summer research projects for high school teachers (supported by Murdock Foundation)
-
The department participates in programs that introduce middle and high school students to university life and academic exploration. Participants engage in interactive activities, small research projects, and mentorship from faculty and graduate students.
-
Throughout the year, the department organizes events open to the public, including:
- Open houses and research showcases
- Community learning events and demonstrations
These events provide opportunities for the public to engage with current research and meet the people behind it.
Student involvement
Students play an important role in the department’s outreach efforts. Through outreach activities, they gain valuable experience in communication, teaching, and community engagement.
Opportunities include:
- Participating in outreach events
- Serving as mentors for visiting students
Impact
Our outreach programs reach hundreds of students and community members each year. Through educational activities and faculty engagement in local initiatives and community organizations, these efforts help promote educational access, inspire future scholars, and share the value of academic research while supporting the communities we are part of.
