Kristina Lucero, JD is a citizen of the Tseycum Band, of the W̱SÁNEĆ First Nations on Vancouver Island, but spent her formative years in Montana, where she has had opportunities to engage in learning and participating in Tribal cultural practices and traditions. A graduate of the University of Montana School of Law, Kristina has served as a Tribal prosecutor, criminal defense attorney, and gubernatorial appointee to the Montana Board of Pardons and Parole. Having worked from every seat in the criminal legal system, she brings rare firsthand insight into addressing the overrepresentation of American Indians within it. She resigned her appointment to lead the American Indian Governance and Policy Institute (AIGPI) where she has built relationships with Tribal Nation leadership and Montana American Indian legislators. Kristina uses these relationships to shape AIGPI's research agenda around Tribal-state policy infrastructure, federal Indian policy repair, and Indigenous data sovereignty.
