MISSOULA - The University of Montana Woodsman Team will participate in the annual Forestry Days Competition at the Garret Grothen Arena at Fort Missoula (214 Old Fort Missoula Road) from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on April 24 and 25.
Forestry Days is a free, family friendly event with food trucks and extreme sports. Competitors will wield chainsaws, chop wooden blocks as quickly as possible and climb a 60-ft telephone pole.
“There’s something for everyone to watch,” said freshman team member Tyler Cook.
The woodsman team is one of the oldest club sports at UM. They have hosted the Forestry Days event for more than 30 years. Professional and amateur competitors will compete in over 15 events, including axe throwing, chopping, pole climb and more.
“This is the only college show in the U.S. that pros actively come to and compete,” said junior Gavin Hines. “Our team has a unique opportunity to compete with the professionals. We have the newest competitors working with our national champions.”
The collegiate competition takes places Friday, April 24, followed by the professional competition on Saturday, April 25. For more information about Forestry Days, visit www.forestrydays.com.
