UMPD - Parking Division

The Parking Division of UMPD is dedicated to managing a shared resource to provide the best alternatives and access to the University of Montana campus. Parking is limited. To help alleviate some of this congestion ASUM Transportation and Mountain Line Transportation provide bus transportation to users. This helps provide free alternative transportation options to our students, faculty, and staff.

All surface parking lots as well as street parking require vehicle registration and payment specific to the area from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.  Although payment to park is not required by UMPD after hours and on weekends, Quick Stops, Service and Delivery, and ADA spots are enforced 24 hours.  Events on campus may also charge for parking after hours. Caution: Read signs carefully. Each parking lot is signed at the entrance and further restrictions are usually designated within the lot.

UMPD now uses a virtual parking permit system.

Our vehicles are equipped with state of the art license plate scanning technology, eliminating the need for a physical parking pass. This innovative technology has simplified the parking permit process, just purchase a parking permit through our parking portal and your license plate becomes your permit to park. Virtual permits work similar to supermarket scanners with the license plate working as the barcode. When your license is read, the numbers are referenced against the parking database to verify valid parking for the location.

Accurate license plate information is vital.  While customers are able to enter two license plates only one vehicle is valid for campus parking at a time.

This change benefits our campus community in many ways.

  • Contactless flexible parking service.
  • Elimination of replacement fee for lost permits.
  • Visitors are able to login as a guest and purchase a permit.
