Welcome! The Writing Center provides a collaborative learning environment for all members of the University of Montana community. Through scheduled appointments and drop-in studio hours, our professional tutors support undergraduates, graduate students, alumni, faculty, and staff at any point during the research, writing and presentation process.
Online and in-person appointments
Schedule a time to meet online or in-person with a professional tutor. During the school year, appointments are available six days a week. Same-day appointments are often available! Visit our online scheduler to make an appointment! Email writingcenter@umontana.edu with any questions and we’ll get back to you as soon as we can.
Drop-In Studio Hours
During the school year, stop by during open Writing Studio hours, 1-4pm Monday through Friday on the main level of the Mansfield Library. Designed as a supportive and communal place to work (stay as long as you’d like!), tutors are available as needed for brief consultations or questions.
Satellite drop-in hours
During the fall and spring semesters you can also find us during drop-in hours at satellite locations across campus. Look for our sign and a friendly face!

Graduate student programming
We offer support to graduate and professional students from every program, division and department across campus. In addition to studio hours and appointments, we host graduate student writing groups, workshops and retreats. Learn more about our graduate student programming.
International student support
Our tutors are trained to work with students whose first language is not English. Stop by during studio hours, make an appointment, or set up recurring appointments to support long-term goals. Please speak with a Writing Center tutor or email writingcenter@umontana.edu if you are interested in recurring appointments.
Online and distance students
We are delighted to serve UM students who are studying or working remotely. After reserving an online appointment through our scheduler, access your meeting by logging into the scheduler at your appointment time and clicking on your appointment box to get the Zoom link.
