About the GVA

Gallery of Visual Arts fac showThe School of Art's Gallery of Visual Arts presents professional contemporary exhibitions that serve the School, University at large, and the surrounding community with its interdisciplinary offerings. It is considered a teaching and professional research laboratory, and is one of the School of Art’s most visible forms of outreach. The exhibitions and presentations feature regional, national, and international artists, exhibitions of all B.F.A. senior thesis projects, all M.A. and M.F.A. thesis projects, an art faculty exhibition, and one juried art student exhibition annually.
Exhibition tours for public and private schools, as well as other departments on campus, can be scheduled by calling the gallery. Opportunities for students through supervised internships and work-study positions are available.
The gallery is 2200 square feet and is split into three adjoining exhibition spaces. Exhibits generally rotate on a monthly basis from September through May. All exhibitions and artist lectures are free and open to the public, and the gallery is wheelchair accessible.
The Gallery of Visual Arts invites artists, arts organizations, and independent curators to submit exhibit proposals for review. Proposals should be sent to Cathryn Mallory,  Director, Gallery of Visual Arts, School of Art, The University of Montana, Missoula, MT 59812 or electronically to gallery.visarts@umontana.edu. The gallery also welcomes proposals for curatorial and/or programming collaborations with university departments.
