Competition
Information about the competition:
- There will be a handful of vulnerable virtual machines, and a series of prompts to help you find these vulnerabilities
- Scoring will take place on a Capture-the-flag platform, with points awarded to each flag that is found
- Competitors will be placed onto teams, and may self-select teams of up to 3 people
- We are attempting to get the Montana National Guard Cyber Unit involved (probably as team captains)
- Each team will have access to a single Kali VM that can reach out to the vulnerable machines.
- None of the virtual machines will have access to the internet. If you wish to download a file, I can download the file and make it available on a file server
- You are encouraged to bring a personal laptop to do research and support the person that is at the keyboard.
Resources to prepare for the competition
(not required, and you can do everything here for free)
- Setting up a Kali VM to interact with tryhackme for free (you can use their attackbox for a little while each day for free without doing this, but I don't like the time limit)
- Pentesting Fundamentals
- Linux Fundamentals 1, 2, and 3
- Nmap
- Introduction to web application vulnerabilities
- Common web application vulnerabilities (OWASP Top 10)
- Linux Privilege Escalation
- Example of compromising a web application
- Introductory Researching
Some of these resources might even be handy to have available during the competition.
