Study Abroad

Are you considering studying abroad? The Office for Disability Equity (ODE) collaborates with the Global Engagement Office (GEO) Education Abroad to facilitate a successful experience for students with disabilities.

Start with the GEO Education Abroad – Students with disabilities.

Keep this in mind. Other countries have their disability laws and regulations that differ from the United States. As a result, accessibility and accommodations in another country and its host institution may differ from those in the US and the University of Montana. The GEO Education Abroad and ODE will work with you to develop good solutions to accessibility challenges.

Planning & communication

Advanced planning and communication are key elements to make your study abroad successful.

Research

  • Gather information about your host country and institution related to your needs (e.g., transportation, housing, physical access, medical care, a service animal, captioned media, sign language interpreting, conversion of print to Braille, test accommodations, and other academic accommodations).

Plan & Communicate

  • Review Education Abroad's students with disabilities and follow their "Next Steps."
  • Notify the GEO Education Abroad of your disability and needs.
  • Interact with Education Abroad and ODE in identifying and implementing accommodations.
  • Keep in touch with Education Abroad.
