Campus Safety, Health and Environmental Managers Association (CSHEMA) Awards University of Montana Health & Safety Director with International Award recognizing the Safety Program Accomplishments at a World-Class Level
The organization (CSHEMA) who has over 4000 members and growing from over 400 + higher education institutions across the United States and 8+ other countries around the world- has selected the University of Montana Director of Environmental Health and Safety Mark Hlebichuk as the 2026 SAFETY PROFESSIONAL OF THE YEAR.
Each year the organization honors the Environmental Safety & Health Professional that exemplifies the dedication to their university and the positive impact they and their team/EHS department has made on their campus that year. Mark is very happy with what EHS was able to accomplish in less than a year from starting at the UofM.
Trent Drinkwalter, Occupational Safety and Health Officer and Mark made big improvements and additions to our Health and Safety Program including Lab & Chemical Safety, Hazardous Materials handling-storage and disposal, Radiation Safety, and mold/indoor air quality to mention a few. Their attentive, personalized approach supports employees, students and the University of Montana and affiliates regulatory requirements.

When EHS is working, the entire system works better, is more productive, is more efficient, and is safer for our Students, Staff and Faculty" says Hlebichuk (pronounced: Lee Bah Chuck) " We have more exciting things planned for the upcoming years, and appreciate the support that has to come from our administration by understanding of the importance an EHS program to the success of the institution, especially our Facilities, Custodial, Housing, and highly recognized R1 Research programs" "Go Griz!"
